Tourism Selangor partners with Hakuba Tourism Association to promote firefly tourism

Collaboration between both parties will also set to see developments in eco nature, agro tourism and homestays

Tourism Selangor is embarking upon a bold enterprise to see the promotion of firefly tourism along with the Hakuba Tourism Association. The twin cities, namely Kuala Selangor and Hakuba Goryu City will be collaborating further to promote its firefly products aimed to help tourists learn more about the preservation of firefly colonies in both cities.

This cooperation is a continuation from the efforts of Tourism Expo Japan 2016 (JATA) which saw Japanese counterparts from the Hakuba Tourism Association visiting Malaysia last 8 September in Kuala Selangor. A visit to Hakuba Goryu by Tourism Selangor is said to be scheduled later this year after JATA 2017 hosted by the Hakuba Tourism Association.

Commenting on the collaboration, General Manager of Tourism Selangor, Madam Noorul Ashikin Mohd Din said that she was confident that the products offered by Tourism Selangor would be of great appeal to Japanese tourists.

“What we will initiate together with Kuala Selangor District Council and Hakuba Tourism Association is a powerful platform that can help drive tourist arrivals from Japan and entice them to stay longer. Local businesses can also capitalise on this inbound interest to grow the economy of the state in the long term,” she added.

Noorul added that these efforts would certainly benefit players in the eco nature, agro tourism and homestay space.

Statistics from Tourism Selangor revealed an increase of 211 % in tourist arrivals from Japan to Malaysia in the first quarter of the year. From January to April 2017, Malaysia recorded a total of 62,356 Japanese tourists versus 20,026 from a year ago.
