Pullman Bangkok Hotel

Raewyn Koh finds her space to think, play and relax

Set in one of the most vibrant cities in Asia, Pullman Bangkok Hotel G is a stylish hotel that has created different spaces to evoke inspiration in this lifestyle hotel. Run by Pullman Hotel Group, the hotel has injected fun into the rooms and spruced up meeting areas with creative concepts so there’s never a dull moment during your stay.

The lifestyle-themed hotel was made for international, cosmopolitan seasoned travellers as seen even in the minute details of the hotel. At the exposed-brick Lobby, chill vibes fill the congregation area as a DJ spins jazz and electronic dance music throughout the day. Just next to the DJ is the aptly named Playground that stretches up to the mezzanine floor. Decked in kitschy objets d’art, Playground sparks playfulness in adults as they relax with cocktail in hand and freshly baked pastries in the other.

There are five different room types to choose from that are catered to a diverse demographic. Find classic contemporary at the Deluxe and Executive Rooms and Executive Suites that feature dark, hardwood floors and soothing earth tones in plush executive furniture. Otherwise choose the G Deluxe Rooms or G Suites that are done up in a young and chic style with an all-white interior.

Our G Deluxe Room was immediately inviting with warm sunlight flooding the room through the floor-to-ceiling windows that also showed a beautiful view of the city and glimpses of the Chao Phraya River. Nothing about the room is small. There is plenty of space to walk around and lounge about, as do the black and white mosaic-tiled bathroom, which has a separate bathtub and shower. Comfort is the keyword to the room. The plush bed comes with even plusher pillows or for those more inclined, an extensive pillow menu is available for blissful, restful sleep. For extra stay-in comfort, luscious bathrobes can be found in the bathroom.

In the room, we are greeted with mango sticky rice as a welcome dessert. Sweet treats continue to come by throughout our stay. On our first night, we receive a selection of chocolate pastries and on the next night, a plate of French petit fours during turndown. Service to the room is impeccable and attentive, with rooms being made up quickly, and requests for extra toiletries, towels and even reservations at restaurants met in a snap.

We decided to head to the Anne Sémonin Spa to escape the hot and humid weather in Bangkok. Located on the fourth floor, the spa is a sanctuary of calm in the otherwise chaotic landscape of the city. There are nine treatment rooms, including two VIP rooms that are fitted with an en suite bathroom. The variety of treatments available are inspired by a unique holistic synergy from the east and the west. It is only right that the masseurs also embody that synergy and my locally trained Thai masseuse was especially skilled in working out every kink and knot during the hour-long traditional Thai massage. The treatment ended with a hot, steamy towel that soothed soreness in the back. I left the spa invigorate and very relaxed, to say the least.

Other than Playground, there are three other restaurants that are accessible to all guests: Mistral Restaurant, 25 Degrees and Scarlett Wine Bar & Restaurant. These cutting edge dining establishments have become the latest meeting points for young, creative executives looking to share haute couture cuisine and ideas over the table. For international fare, we recommend the all-day diner, Mistral, which serves a solid selection of local and Asian favourites and fresh, succulent seafood plated on ice buffet style. Our favourite casual dining spot is 25 Degrees, the sister venue to the legendary Los Angeles burger and wine bar of the same name. Named after the precise temperature difference between a raw and a perfectly cooked hamburger, 25 Degrees serves juicy variations of prime ground sirloin. If a burger at breakfast seems like a mouthful, it’s time to head here for their breakfast burger sandwiches that is packed full of ingredients fit for a champion. From lunch onwards, sink teeth into moist patties topped with your choice of fresh vegetables and a wide variety of cheeses. This is one place to put that diet on the back burner. For entertaining, take dinner guests to the 37th floor for Scarlett Wine Bar & Restaurant. Following its huge success in Beijing, China, Scarlett offers the same fine list of wines to go along with tapas, daily specials, imported cold cuts and cheeses. Main courses are served with a side of theatrics with its innovative seafood, pastas and risottos, and a hefty 1.5kg smoked tomahawk steak carved table-side.

This is the hotel for the younger, executive crowd that enjoys the finer things in life and are willing to pay for top quality and exemplary service. The focus on lifestyle means guests are able to treat Pullman Bangkok Hotel G as a one stop, do all complex without the need to ever step out into the city.
